Arnes, the umbrella organization responsible for managing Slovenian .si domain names, is introducing some key changes. As the state has withdrawn government funding for this field, Arnes introduced an annual fee which the owner of the domain name is required to pay via a licensed registrar such as Infonova / Domains.si. At the same time, the criteria for domain name registration have been relaxed, allowing natural persons and organizations from across the world to register their domain names under the “.si” suffix. |
Although the annual cost for Slovenian ".si" domain names is currently much higher than for some other domains (e.g. .com, .net, .org), it is expected to drop in the future. The root system of Slovenian .si domains remains under government management and operates on a non-profit basis. Assurances have been given that future prices will be adapted to actual costs and revenues, which is expected to allow a decrease in prices. |
